3 Nice Quotes

Newsletter

Hey friends,

I came across 3 quotes this week that I liked. The first two are from Jeff Bezos’ opening statement for the anti-trust hearing thing, and the third is from our old friend Richard Feynman.

1 – On minimising regret (Jeff Bezos)

When I’m 80 and reflecting back, I want to have minimized the number of regrets that I have in my life. And most of our regrets are acts of omission—the things we didn’t try, the paths untraveled. Those are the things that haunt us. And I decided that if I didn’t at least give it my best shot, I was going to regret not trying to participate in this thing called the internet that I thought was going to be a big deal.

2 – On taking criticism (Jeff Bezos)

As I have said since my first shareholder letter in 1997, we make decisions based on the long-term value we create as we invent to meet customer needs. When we’re criticized for those choices, we listen and look at ourselves in the mirror. When we think our critics are right, we change. When we make mistakes, we apologize. But when you look in the mirror, assess the criticism, and still believe you’re doing the right thing, no force in the world should be able to move you.

3 – On following your own path (Richard Feynman)

You have no responsibility to live up to what other people think you ought to accomplish. I have no responsibility to be like they expect me to be. It’s their mistake, not my failing.

Right, time to get back to binge watching Hunter X Hunter (incredible anime btw).

Have a great week!

Friendships and Relationships ft. Valentin and Cliff | Not Overthinking

In this episode we chat to Valentin Perez and Cliff Weitzman about friendships, relationships, and the our ideas of the good life.

My Favourite Things This Week

1 – Channel – I’ve spent many hours on the toilet this week watching Primitive Survival Tool. They have some incredibly mesmerising videos. Their latest building project has been fascinating to watch over the past month.

2 – Video – Another YouTube recommendation – this time from Peter McKinnon. His latest video offers advice about ‘How to crush your Instagram game in 2020‘ but the lessons are very much relevant beyond the world of Instagram. It’s an excellent piece about  building anything of quality over time.

3 – Newsletter – Despite not getting some of the references, I found this newsletter post very interesting. There’s always something intriguing about reading something that’s from a completely different world but that you can just about understand.

4 – Video – Finally, yet another video recommendation! The guys at Yes Theory always provide quality, inspiring content and this week was no different. The video Helping a Subscriber Get His Dream Job is such an uplifting watch. I try to make a point not to binge their stuff, but instead to use it as a motivating influence (wink) when I need a hit of dopamine.

Quote of the Week

“Not worrying about what people think frees you to do things, and doing things allows you to win or learn from your loss—which means you win either way. Hear me now: you are better off being wrong ten times and being right three than you are if you try only three times and always get it right”.
