Social Media Manager – Ali Abdaal (Hong Kong)

I’m looking for a full-time social media manager to work with me and the team in Hong Kong.

🚀 The Mission

I started my YouTube channel back in 2017 giving advice on how to get into medical school. Over time I became known as a productivity guy, quit medicine in 2020, and built what’s turned into a pretty vibey, pretty enjoyable business over the past 5 years.

Our mission is to create inspiring, educational content that helps people find the clarity, courage and skills to build the life they love.

YouTube is still the heart of what we do, but more of the audience now meets us first on Instagram, LinkedIn and X and we’re looking for someone to own those platforms as we grow.

We’ve just moved into a new studio in Hong Kong and we’re building out a proper content team around it: a videographer filming day-to-day life, a staff writer turning conversations into posts and carousels, an editing team, and a YouTube strategist.

What we’re missing is someone to own my social channels end to end, so every great piece of content we make actually reaches the people it could help.

If that sounds like your kind of thing, read on 👇

🚀 What You’ll Be Doing

📈 Strategy & Growth

You’re the owner of my Instagram, LinkedIn and X. Our Instagram goal is 2 million followers by the end of September 2027, and we want LinkedIn and X to become real growth channels rather than places we occasionally post. You’ll set the strategy for each platform, decide what we double down on and what we stop, and own the numbers that matter: followers, reach, engagement and, most importantly, email subscribers and leads.

🗓️ Content Calendar Management

You’ll plan and run a daily publishing rhythm across all 3 platforms and keep the calendar at least a couple of weeks ahead, make sure nothing goes out late or off-brand, and spot gaps before they become problems. Most of what we publish starts life as something I’ve already said, whether that’s a YouTube video, an LBA Q&A or footage the videographer captured that week. You’ll work with the writer, videographer and editors to turn that into content that feels native to each platform, rather than the same thing pasted everywhere.

🎬 Filming Days

Every week we’ll have a dedicated socials filming day. You’ll come in with the hooks prepared, a clear shot list and a plan for what we need, then direct the session so we leave with a full week of value reels in the bag. You’ll also coordinate with the videographer on what to capture day to day, from office life to events and travel, so the Diaries and Stories always have fresh material.

📊 Analytics & Experiments

You’ll track performance at the level of individual posts, not just monthly follower counts. That means UTM-tracked links on everything so we can see which content drives email signups and sales, a weekly snapshot of what’s working, and a monthly review that feeds directly into the next content ritual. You’ll run a steady stream of experiments on hooks, formats, posting times and carousel styles (branded vs native-looking, for example), and tell us not just what happened but why, and what you’re going to do about it.

🤝 Sponsors & Partnerships

You’ll coordinate sponsored content end to end, from briefs and scripts to approvals, posting and reporting back to the brand, making sure every integration feels like me and delivers for the partner. You’ll work with Angus on renewals and help us spot where social can create new commercial opportunities.

💬 Community

You’ll keep an eye on comments and DMs, surface the questions and stories that keep coming up, and make sure people feel heard. Some of our best content ideas come straight from the audience, and stories from people whose lives the content has changed are some of the most valuable things we collect.

⚙️ Publishing & Ops

You’ll own the systems that keep everything moving, from scheduling and captions to approvals and asset management. Right now posting alone eats several hours a week, so we want this to be efficient and reliable, with clear workflows the rest of the team can plug into. As the channels grow, you’ll help us decide whether to bring in a coordinator to handle day-to-day posting and reporting, and manage them if we do.

🤖 AI

You’re not just aware of AI, you use it every day for first drafts, captions, repurposing long-form into short-form and digging through analytics. You’ll help us build AI workflows that format my ideas for each platform while keeping everything sounding like him rather than a machine, and you’ll know where the human touch still matters most.

✅ What We’re Looking For

📱 Social Media Native

You live on Instagram, LinkedIn and X and understand that each one rewards something different. You can explain why a reel works on Instagram but flops on LinkedIn, you spot trends and new features early, and you have strong opinions on what good looks like on each platform.

🚀 Proven Growth

You can point to an account (your own, a client’s or a brand’s) that grew because of what you did, and talk through the numbers without hand-waving. Bonus points if it was a creator or personal brand, where the voice has to stay authentic as the volume scales.

🛠️ Hands-On

This isn’t a strategy-deck role. You’ll write captions, direct shoots, make quick edits in CapCut or the Instagram app, design a carousel in Canva and hit publish yourself when needed. You’re as comfortable doing the work as deciding what the work should be.

✍️ Strong Writing

You can write a hook that stops the scroll and take 1 idea and turn it into a reel script, a carousel and a LinkedIn post that each feel native. You have an ear for voice and can write in my tone (knowledgeable but approachable, a few steps ahead rather than preachy) without it sounding generic or AI-written.

📊 Data-Driven

You enjoy digging into analytics and know which numbers matter and which are vanity metrics. You’re comfortable with UTMs and attribution, you can build a simple weekly report that’s actually useful, and you turn data into decisions about what to make next.

💰 Commercial Instinct

You understand that the point of social is to help people and grow the business, not just rack up views. You’re excited to learn how creator businesses make money, from sponsorships to email to products like SuperFocus and the Lifestyle Business Academy, and you think about how content moves people towards them without feeling salesy.

🎨 Eye for Design

You know a good carousel when you see one, you care about the small details, and you’re comfortable in Canva or similar. You can keep things on-brand while still testing new visual styles.

🤖 AI-forward

You already use AI tools in your workflow and can show us exactly how, which we see as a baseline expectation in 2026. You’re curious about new tools and quick to test whether they actually save time or improve the output.

🗂️ Organised and Reliable

You can run lots of parallel workflows (daily posts, sponsor deliverables, filming days, reporting) without dropping balls. You surface problems before they escalate, keep everyone updated without being asked, and we should never have to chase you.

💛 Great Character

We’re a small, high-trust team, so we’re looking for someone kind, candid and low ego who takes ownership when things go wrong. You’ll be close to me and the team day to day, so discretion and good judgement matter. We’d rather have someone with slightly less experience and extraordinary character than the other way around.

🗣️ Native-level English

Most of our audience is English-speaking, so you’ll need a native-level ear for tone, humour and nuance.

❤️ A love for what we do

You care about productivity, personal development and helping people build lives they love. If you’d happily read, watch and share this kind of content in your spare time, this role will feel like a natural fit.

🌏 Why Hong Kong?

I’m based here, and the studio is where all the content happens. Social is fast and a lot of the best stuff is spontaneous, so we want you in the room with me, the videographer and the writer, spotting moments and turning them around the same day.

🎁 What We Offer

🌍 Reach: Your work will go out to millions of people across my channels every week, and the messages we get from people who changed something in their lives because of a video or a post are the best part of the job.

🧠 Ownership: You’ll have real creative and strategic authority over 3 major channels, with the freedom to test, experiment and build things your way rather than executing someone else’s plan.

✈️ Team retreats: Bi-annual retreats somewhere amazing (recent ones include Bali, USA and Thailand), plus the chance to create content at masterminds, events and wherever else the year takes us.

🏠 In-person studio culture: A brand new office in Hong Kong with a proper studio setup and a small, fun team who care about the work and each other. We’re deliberately building in person because the creative energy compounds.

🚀 Growth: You’ll be working at the intersection of content, marketing and a fast-growing education and software business. As the channels and the team grow, so does the scope of your role.
